The City of Lewisburg, WV, in the midst of an expansion of its water system into the town of Frankford, WV, encountered limestone bedrock in the trenches being excavated for piping. They brought in an outside contractor with a track hoe equipped with hydraulic hammer at $150 per hour and let it work for 2 days to clear the limestone from the partially excavated ditch. On the third day city officials visited the site to check on progress only to find that the operator estimated that several more days would be required to complete the rock removal.
